Troops loyal to army chief Gen Sonthi Boonyaratkalin last night staged a coup d’etat to oust caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra who was in New York and due to address the United Nations General Assembly. Papers from the region and at least one in the U.K. (that we noticed) splashed big with this breaking news.
