Our UK blogger is now the SND Region 15 Director

By Robb Montgomery

Great news from VizEds blogger Alan Formby-Jackson.

SND president Scott Goldman and SND Executive Director Elise Burroughs recently tapped Alan to lead an effort to rebuild Region 15 participation in the global visual journalism debate.

Alan reassures his VizEds blog fans: “Yes, I will still blog for VizEds.”
He is considering recasting his UK blog coverage. May look a bit similar to what VizEds Power Poster Nicole Bogdas does now after SND tapped her to lead Region Three.

Region 15 Headquarters

In Middlesbrough.

“We have a relatively small number of members within the region, but we cover over 20 countries in western Europe, so hopefully I can boost the membership and try to persuade people in the area to be more pro-active members.

“I’m now in the process of drawing up plans for the region’s future.”

VizEds is thrilled to see our active posters and volunteer bloggers extending their efforts to build and rebuild visual journalism connections.

It is all good.

Please give Alan your full attention when he calls you to help out and contact us if you want to join the stable of VizEds Bloggers. We can help you start or transfer your existing blog to the Visual Editors stage.

Visual Editors and the World Editors Forum teamed up again on a multimedia project from the annual meeting of the world’s press.

For Cape Town, we deployed two teams of Stellenbosch University Journalism students to video blog from the conference and also film extensive documentary interviews with top editors about newsroom print - online integration.

Ed Greenspon, Editor-in-Chief of Canada’s Globe and Mail, speaks with WEF’s John Burke about integrated newsrooms.
Students Gina Schreuder and Siyabonga Africa film the interview that will be edited this summer to produce training videos.

“You’ve got to be willing to experiment: that’s a culture you’ve got to create. You must be confident to take risks”, Greenspon said.

Adam Pesick interviews Desmond Tutu in Cape Town
By Robb Montgomery

CAPE TOWN: The Archbishop emiritus, Desmond Tutu, gave a special audience today with a few of us reporting and presenting on new media journalism at the World Editors Forum in Cape Town.

We made some video this morning and also were happy to observe Adam Pasick, Reuters Second Life bureau chief, chat for a few mintues one on one with Desmod Tutu at the ‘Arch’s’ office in Cape Town. “Arch” is what the former Archboshop’s friends and staff called him in our presence.

Adam’s interview (and maybe some video) will be streamed on Second Life as part of the programme and we will provide links when that interview happens as an As Life event. Tutu also taped a video address. The podcast linked to below was recorded as Adam, Robb and World Editors Forum Director, Bertrand Pecquerie were en route to Desmond’s office Friday morning. At the time of recording the cab driver was a bit confused as to the directions . . .
