Our sources in Europe did give us an early heads up that the winner in the Weekly category is Welt am Sonntag of Berlin, Germany. Nice to know we can keep a secret, eh?

If you judged the recent SND competition its no secret the Sunday weekly edition won big again.
You may recall awarding a Gold prize for the portfolio of Welt am Sonntag’s art director Joerdis Guzman Bulla. Here’s a photo we snapped of Joerdis at SND Boston.

Last year De Morgen won for “best designed” in the contest’s “National Paper” category and we soon after got the delightful De Morgen Art Director Martin Huisman into the VizEds chat room for a special webinar and member Q&A session.

The De Morgen redesign is featured in the Redesign Wing of VizEds.

Joerdis is a little busy right now
That task of catching up with Joerdis will be a little difficult to achieve - she’s currently off the coast of Africa preparing to depart the shores of the Canary Islands Sunday on a 10-person sailboat headed to a Caribbean island. She’ll be crossing blue water for the next two weeks and will be multimedia blogging the adventure for Welt am Sonntag.
Of course she is!

She writes:

I’m ready for new adventures. I will cross the Atlantic by a sailing boat as participant of the “Atlantic Rally for Cruisers” ARC 2007. The start will be at 25th of November from Las Palmas. Thereafter follow water, water and again water until we will 14 – 17 days later hopefully unscathed go ashore in St. Lucia.

And because an Atlantic-crossing alone of course is not enough challenge for me I got involved with the idea to publish an online-diary at www.welt.de/arc2007. I will try to make our journey lively with text, photos and podcasts. The page will work from Sunday (unfortunately only in German – maybe you will find someone for translation?).

I hope for your curiosity and assistance – every click lets my diary come to fame. Every positive feedback helps us to win the regatta!!!

That may well be that I’m a little bit nervous now… Best regards from Jördis

Not merely sailing - RACING in a regatta against 242 other boats.

Congrats to Welt am Sonntag and to Joerdis, safe journeys!

VIDEO BONUS: If you watched Jonathon Berlin’s stellar vlog coverage from Malofiej this year than you may remember seeing Karin Sturm and Joerdis at the graphics summit in Pamplona Spain. They talk about their double-truck graphics for Welt am Sonntag.
