Moving day for NYT graphics

Julie Walton Shaver, night graphics manager for The New York Times, documented the NYT graphics department’s Friday night move from the building on 43rd Street it has occupied since 1913 to the shiny new Times Tower on Eighth Avenue.

At Shaver’s blog, you’ll see photos of techs and movers packing up Macs, monitors and Wacoms. (What the heck is the plural of Wacom, anyway? Wacai?) And, of course, she shares a few memories and anecdotes along the way.

So can the newspaper business really be in terrible shape if two companies (NYT and Hearst) just built two shiny towers on some of the world’s most expensive real estate?
