Happy birthday, Martin Gee
Please join me in wishing a hearty VizEds birthday to the master Photoshop ninja himself, Martin Gee of The San Jose Mercury News.

Martin hangs in Orlando with Ashley Dinges — who started work last week in San Jose, by the way — and with Carrie Hoover, who’s interning in San Jose this summer. Martin is the one on the left — the one who’s NOT grinning to have his picture taken with Martin Gee.
Martin is one of the more unusual characters you’ll ever meet. He’s incredibly talented, funny as hell and creatively gifted way past the point of being downright wacky. If you’ve never managed to see one of his presentations, you’re really missing out. (And you missed out again by just that much: He spoke last weekend at the Portland quickcourse.)
Two years ago, when he was still with Chicago’s RedEye, Martin came to SND/Houston armed with buttons adorned with the ninja cartoon character he created. The buttons quickly became the hottest swag of the workshop.

Last year in Orlando, Martin brought more buttons. This time, however, the buttons expressed Martin’s, um, views about the CCI publishing system. Poof! Another hot collectible item.
Oh — and before we forget: Martin actually does work, too. Here is proof:

Martin shares a birthday with John Cusack, Gilda Radner, Mel Brooks, Kathy Bates, John Elway and King Henry VIII of England. Plus, today is Paul Bunyon Day. So please pass along my best wishes to your nearest blue ox.
Happy birthday, Martin!

MARTIN! MARTIN! MARTIN! Betcha can’t guess who the clowns were yelling that from the back of the room in Houston. Speaking as one of the people sitting in the middle of that group…

When I checked out his work, I can say that he’s a hardworking guy. And it’s but proper to give him a break. A blast birthday party is OK but make sure to give the guy due recognition for all his hardwork.

thanks for the bday wishes. you’re making me blush. you picked the perfect photo, the 3 of us went to the air guitar championship tour last night and rocked out. the 2 lovely ladies also made cookies (the highlight of my day) and announced it to the whole newsroom (yikes). i usually like to keep that info hush hush. all day people were guessing my age ranging from 12 - 26. it’s the asian babyface gene. ;)
“can you vote yet?”
“oh no, that’s next year.”
thanks charles!
