Jim McBee moves to SmartNews
Jim McBee of Bluffton Today writes:
I’ve agreed to go to work for Randy Foster, a guy I used to work for at The Fayetteville Observer.
He’s started a newspaper in Fayetteville called SmartNews. You can read a little about it here: http://www.smartnewsroom.com
The title will be managing editor. As Randy put it, “big hat, little boat.” I’m comfortable with that.

It’s exciting to be involved in another startup. The first two years of Bluffton Today have been exhilarating — unlike anything I’ve experienced in the business.
SmartNews will be more like Link or the Metros or the Examiners than BT — more of a snappy news digest than a ‘hyperlocal’ paper. But I will look to transplant that subtle hometown-paper tone, attitude, feel — it’s hard to put into words — that’s been successful in Bluffton. And we will grow our local reporting. It’s just going to be fun, and I really look forward to working with Randy again.
I should be starting with SmartNews no later than July 9.

Jim, best wishes on the new gig. Good to see “outside the box” thinking, and here’s to SmartNews doing well.

Thanks, y’all. And thanks for finding a ridiculous photo of me, Chuck. You actually went with something relatively unincriminating.

Incriminating? That’s my shirt in the background, probably because I was in it at the time. Heh, heh.
