Bill Bootz to Iowa’s Quad City Times
Editor Steve Thomas of the Quad City Times announced Tuesday:ÂÂ
I’m pleased to announce that Bill Bootz will be joining our staff as AME for presentation. Bill’s first day will be Aug. 20.
As most of you know, Bill is presentation editor with The Oklahoman in Oklahoma City and has been active in the Society for News Design since 2002. He’s even a friend of Greg Swanson.
Bill said he enjoyed talking to the people who design and edit our paper during his visit and looks forward to becoming part of the team.

Aug. 20 will be a big day for the Bootman. Not only will that be his first day at the QCT, it’ll also be his 40th birthday.
If you’re not from the Midwest,  you’re probably wondering: Where the hell are the Quad Cities?
The Quad Cities are Davenport and Bettendorf in Iowa and Rock Island and Moline in Illinois. The area straddles the Mississippi River, on the underside of that funny hump on the right side of Iowa:
 
The Quad City times is a Lee Enterprises paper. It has a circulation of about 57,000. I kept a close eye on that paper during my years in Des Moines. It’s a scrappy paper that always did top-notch work. Bill’s no-nonsense, content-driven design philosophy shoud be a great fit at the Quad City Times.
Bill’s been a great pal for a number of years. He was the perfect host during last summer’s SND Quickcourse in Oklahoma City, driving me around town and stuffing me with food and beer — not necessarily in that order.
He’s a great catch for the QCT. If you have to replace someone like Greg Swanson, Bill’s the kind of guy you’d want to call.
