Orlando Sentinel goes furniture shopping; lands William Couch

William Couch — the man made famous by his entertaining campaign for last summer’s “The Intern” contest for SND/Orlando — has been hired by The Orlando Sentinel.

 Outsitting in his field
William Couch is certainly outstanding –
or, in this case, out sitting — in his field.

Orlando AME/Presentation Bonita Burton writes:

We’ve hired him as a multimedia artist, working under Design Editor Todd Stewart. He may do some design and graphics for the paper, but the majority of his work will be multimedia storytelling. His first day will be July 30.

William finished third in the Orlando edition of ”The Intern” — winning an internship at The Arizona Republic. His dry sense of humor and easygoing nature made him one of the more interesting contestants. His video was by far the best of the batch.

It’s already been a busy year for William. First, he graduated from the University of Michigan. Then, he spent a few months on a fellowship at Poynter. His internship in Phoenix was supposed to start soon. Bonita writes:

Tracy Collins was EXTREMELY gracious in releaseing William from his internship. Considering all that Tracy did in behalf of “The Intern” competition, it’s just amazing what a generous person he is. William was to have been driving to Arizona this Saturday. Instead, he’s headed to O-Town, where we couldn’t be more excited!

  1. William Couch Says:

Thanks, Charles! I’m really excited for the opportunity, and trust me it was a very difficult decision regarding the Arizona Republic, but Tracy was extremely understanding in the situation. I’d still love to work for the Republic someday, and would certainly consider it an honor to work under the guidance of Tracy.
