What I did on summer vacation
We got back home late Monday afternoon — a little later than we had hoped, thanks to a detour we took after running into a huge backup on I-95 in North Carolina. The detour was very scenic, however: Wow, Eastern North Carolina is beautiful. We really need to get off the interstates more often.
We spent seven days in Atlanta with my in-laws and then four days with my dad and his wife in Thomson, Ga., not far from Augusta. While in Atlanta, I spoke at the SND quickcourse there, as you’ve seen in a previous post (Scroll down if you’re interested).
While in town, we toured the Atlanta Aquarium. Wow. Lots of fish. I just had to go to Red Lobster afterward.
The highlight of my trip, however, was when CNN asked my daughter and me to guest-host Robin & Company:

Ha! Not really. In fact, that’s us in front of a green screen in the CNN/Turner Networks gift shop.
I went back to work Tuesday, only to discover that my wonderful staff kicked major butt while I was gone.
When I got home last night, I was informed that Sharon will paint our bedroom Thursday and take delivery on new bedroom furniture on Friday. We must be the only family on the planet that spends less money on vacation than we do when we’re NOT on vacation.
Ah, well. Have a nice 4th of July holiday today. Don’t eat too many fireworks or shoot off too many barbequed ribs.
