Let’s pause a moment today to offer Happy VizEds birthday wishes to Jann Nyffeler, copy desk chief of The (Rochester, N.Y.) Democrat and Chronicle.

Jann was on the features copy desk at The (Raleigh, N.C.) News & Observer when I worked there in the mid-1990s. Her name at the time was Jann Green. I enjoyed working with her because a) She was pleasant to work with, and b) I amused myself by thinking of pages as “a Green-Apple project.”

I know, I know. I’m easily amused.

Jan is a 1988 graduate of the University of Nebraska. After she left The N&O, she worked for a while at The Dallas Morning News before moving to Rochester in 2001.

She’s also done some radio work — Jann has an awesome voice — and she helped blogg the Democrat and Chronicle’s coverage of the Rochester Jazz Festival. Find that blog here.

Jann shares a birthday with Lance Armstrong, James Gandolfini, Frankie Avalon and Greta Garbo. In addition, today is National Play-Doh Day. Seriously.
