Melissa Angle moves to Atlanta Journal-Constitution

This just in…

Melissa Angle of The Orlando Sentinel has been hired as Senior Designer A1/News by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She will begin her new job in mid-October.

This news comes via a “little bird” at the AJC. The bird will post a formal announcement at VizEds as soon as possible.

The bird writes:

You can tell them the bird said Melissa wowed everyone she met here, we wanted to hire her on the spot.

Melissa has been at the Sentinel since March, 2005. Previously, she had been a copy editor for business, features and news stories and a designer for A1 and local sections at The Sun News of Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Melissa is a 2002 graduate of Wichita State University in Kansas, where she was editor of the student newspaper, The Sunflower.

(The paper is called The Sunflower? You’ve got to be kidding me!)

Mangle’s time in Orlando has been short but eventful. In June of last year, Melissa was promoted to Senior Designer.

Sentinel AME Bonita Burton posted earlier this year at VizEds:

In 2006 she spearheaded the revamping our Monday Local section into a weekly visual report called Local InDepth. That effort won multiple SND awards and an Employee of the Year award. Melissa was instrumental in bringing SND’s annual workshop to Orlando last year.

This summer, Mangle was named a regional director of the Society for News Design, replacing Nicole Bogdas, who moved to St. Louis.

Melissa is truly one of the most imaginative, intelligent visual journalists I know. Plus, she’s a riot to just hang out with. I always know when Melissa’s arrived just by the sound of laughter that erupts in the room. We’ll even miss her irreverance and impertinence! Congratulations, Atlanta, on a simply tremendous hire.
