A few more stray photos from SND
Among the photos I have jangling around my Mac this evening…

Here I am Wednesday night, wearing Shraddha Swaroop’s fuzzy pink cap. Mmmm. Makes my bald spot warm. That’s Rob Montgomery sipping a cold one.
This was taken by Jackie Wu, by the way. She told me to blog it.
—

Steve Dorsey snapped this photo of me posing with two of last year’s “The Intern” candidates, William Couch and Billy Kulpa. William is now with The Orlando Sentinel; Billy is working with Poynter.
—

I mentioned that Thursday, I walked to the nearest McDonald’s: This one in Chinatown, near the theater district.
—
We didn’t really have a good place to blog. The couches on the mezzanine level didn’t have coffee tables. Two large tables in an “L” shape had electrical cables nearby, so Bill Gaspard and I plopped down there Thursday and alternated sitting there the rest of the weekend.
Friday, however, we found out what the tables were really for: That’s where they put “The Intern” portfolios.
Here I am at what I called “blog central” on Thursday, through the lens of Steve Dorsey’s camera.

Notice I’m wearing the Batman shirt my wife, Sharon, made last year before SND/Orlando. I have yet to find photos online of the new shirt she made me last year — the Apple shirt — that I wore Friday.

This, too, is at “blog central” and on Thursday. Photo by Robb Montgomery.
—

I told Tim Goheen of McClatchy-Tribune that I wanted a mug shot to post with his annual birthday post. He agreed not to slap the camera out of my hand.
—

It was great seeing the gracious and gorgeous Sarah Slobin again. She left The New York Times last year to become senior graphics editor of Fortune magazine. Here, she chats with another magazine graphics legend, John Grimwade of Condé Nast Portfolio.

Saturday, Jim McBee and I were pondering where to run for lunch when a gaggle of Missouri students and alumni suggested we tag along with them to Legal Seafood, practically across the street. That’s Danny Dougherty, class of ‘06, and now with StateLine.org, on the left. Sara Davidson, class of ‘04, now with the Fredericksburg (Va.) Free-Lance Star is in the middle. My old buddy Beth Androuais, currently a grad student, is on the right.
—

The crowd listens with rapt attention to Jim McBee of Fayetteville, N.C.’s SmartNews. Could be worse. He could be telling “knock-knock” jokes.
—

Meanwhile, at the other end of the table, Florida Times-Union artist Patrick Garvin — class of ‘04 — gives his stand-up routine while sitting down. Don’t bother, Pat. I see you’ve already put grad student Bryan Wendell to sleep. Poor guy: We’re about to walk back to the hotel and he’s dreaming about Penn State girls.
—

That’s Christine Chan on the left and Eliza Glass on the right. You should be so lucky to have such a fun pair of lunch companions. Christine, in particular, has been honored for her volunteer efforts on campus and in the area.
—
And finally…

I snapped this portrait of a weary Robb Montgomery Sunday during a late lunch at Legal Seafood. We each stayed up late partying Saturday night. Our session with the Egyptian folks began at 9:30 a.m.

WISH LIST
Somewhere out there are probably photos of me with my 2007 intern, Allisence Chang. She was one of “The Intern” candidates for this year. She won a Poynter fellowship.
There are also photos of me and my 2005 intern, Lindi Daywalt, now with The Fort Myers News Press.
Most importantly, someone, somewhere, has photos of me with both Allisence and Lindi. Not only do I want that photo, I want to get that photo framed.
There was someone taking pictures of me giving portfolio reviews Thursday and Friday. I’d love copies of those.
And if you have photos of Steve Komives wheeling Denise Reagan through the lobby on a luggage cart late Saturday… well, I’d like those, too. Although you might think twice before giving them to me.
If you have any more shots like this, please dish.
Thanks.

That cap makes you look like a swank hipster, Chuck. You should wear one of those around everywhere.

“Look like”? You mean I’m NOT a swank hipster?

A. I think McBee was actually telling knock-knock jokes.
B. That picture of me makes me look awkward. So, you got the true essence, methinks.

McBee, telling knock-knock jokes? Surely you jest.
I’m telling ya right now: Be ready for The Swamp in Las Vegas. Road trips to In-N-Out Burger. But no dropping a case of beer (shattering the contents therein) before it’s even opened.

Re: Knock, knock jokes — that’s just the B-material. I’m saving the A-material for Vegas.
Damn, I’d forgotten about that parking lot party foul, Doug. And we hadn’t even started drinking (which was probably the problem.) Or had we? Drinking occurred.
Whoah, check out http://www.redrocklasvegas.com/index.php The hotel even has a hip, David Holmes/Oceans 11 type theme song. (Not sure if not being on The Strip is a good thing or a bad thing.)
