Happy birthday, Patti McCracken

Let’s pause a moment here to offer up happy VizEds birthday wishes to my good friend Patti McCracken, a newspaper educator based in Heinburg, Austria.

Patti travels the world teaching journalism in developing countries. She’s insightful, witty and is a hell of a blogger.

She’s just now getting back from her latest journey to Vietnam. Patti also has written features and commentary pieces for The San Francisco Chronicle, the Chicago Tribune, The Christian Science Monitor and her hometown paper, The Virginian-Pilot.

I worked with her at the Tribune a decade or so ago. She was a lot of fun. I don’t think I’ve ever met a visual journalist so knowledgeable about word affairs.

Patti’s dog Remi

Patti’s Jack Russell terrier, Remi, rides in style
in the back of Patti’s old black London taxi.

Patti would be delighted to know she shares a birthday with hunky actor Viggo Mortensen, musicians Tom Petty and Snoop Dogg — Patti loves dogs — as well as journalist Art Buchwald and baseball great Mickey Mantle.

In addition, today is National Brandied Fruit Day. Seriously.

Have a great birthday, Patti! Please tell all of Eastern Europe we said “Hey!

I’m glad Charles keeps track of the these things, otherwise I would not have been able to wish one of my favorite persons a Happy Birthday. So glad you’ve survived your “Sleepless in Saigon’ gig. I won’t ask how many years you’re wearing these days out of courtesy, but it can’t be more than 29 if I’ve done my math right. Love you Patti.

I happen to know Patti is only 29 as she is my baby sister. I can’t say little sister any more as she is slightly taller than I and looks like a model. Once when she was back visiting in the States, we went to a video store and I was looking around to ask her a question and I couldn’t find her. I did find myself staring at this beautiful chic European looking woman and suddenly realized I was staring at my sister!!! It was great seeing a tribute to her. She has always been witty.
Happy Birthday to you sis. You live out loud!!!!
