The happiest of VizEds birthday wishes go out today to Poh Si Teng, a multimedia intern for The Miami Herald. Poh turns 23 today.

Poh Si graduated earlier this year from San Francisco State University and spent this summer as an intern at The Virginian-Pilot where she served as a fabulous ambassador for the Pilot’s online efforts.
Her supervisor this summer, online news coordinator Kerry Sipe, writes:
Poh Si is not just a creative and energetic young Web producer. She thinks globally about the Web. She is always among the first to study every new development in the evolution of the Web and to suggest new applications for the good and to challenge the bad.
She represents the best of the next generation of Web thinkers, who will take the medium to places the rest of us suspect exist but will never see until thinkers like Poh Si show them to us.

Miranda Mulligan — a graphics reporter/artist for the Pilot and who is a whiz herself with interactive graphics — writes:
Wow, is Poh Si an ambitious soul! I just really love how big she thinks and how well she executes her ideas. The Miami Herald is lucky to have her right now.
Miranda has been working on a project she began with Poh Si this summer. That project will publish soon on the Pilot’s web site. Stay tuned for details.
She has also served internships at The Columbus Dispatch, The Vallejo (Calif.) Times-Herald, The Oakland Herald, and The New Straits Times in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
She co-founded theCICAK, a nonprofit political and pop culture magazine in Kuala Lumpur.

“Go, Speed Racer,” about a Williamsburg man who indulged his taste in race cars by buying a unique old French three-wheeled sports car.
—
“Tall Ships Sail in Norfolk,” about the sights and sounds aboard a Brazilian vessel traveling to Norfolk’s annual Tall Ships festival.
—
“Demolition Day,” about the destruction of a tired old home in a Newport News residential area.
