Hartford Courant hires one, promotes one
.
Melanie Shaffer, Director of Design and Graphics at The Hartford Courant, writes:
I am pleased to announce that we have hired a new designer and will reorganize some of our news design duties.
Elizabeth Zuhl, who has worked here as an intern since June, will join the design staff on Sept. 26, replacing Kristen Lenz.
Elizabeth is a graduate of Ohio University, where she studied design, graphics and political science. Her friendly demeanor, collaboration skills, passion for improvement, ability to conceptualize art and exceptional design style make her a great fit.
Elizabeth will be designing Business three days a week and Connecticut page on Fridays and Saturdays.
Elizabeth officially began her new duties last Wednesday.

Elizabeth was vice-president of the Ohio University SND chapter and helped out with the judging in Syracuse last winter. In addition, Melanie continues:
David Holub, our Connecticut page designer, will apply his excellent news judgment and design skills to A1 on Sunday and Monday nights.
David joined The Courant in April 2006 and immediately settled into the Connecticut design role, a new one for the department. He helped launch the redesign of the section last fall.
He will continue to design for Connecticut Tuesday through Thursday.
Before joining The Courant, David was a features designer for The Corpus Christi, Texas, Caller-Times and then a sports designer with The Miami Herald.
He is also a prolific writer of short fiction stories; his work has appeared in publications such as The Cafe Irreal, Pindeldyboz, Defenestration, The Dream People, and Bust Down the Door and Eat All the Chickens.
No, I’ve never heard of them either. I’m awfully tempted to go check them out, though, after reading this Q&A with him in Susurrus magazine.
Find several samples of David’s writing at the Associated Content media page. The one on those trendy “Crocs” shoes is particularly amusing.
