More SND/Boston news

Are you packing yet for Boston?

We’re getting excited. Things are heating up fast.

Park Plaza

A few items to note…

STILL LOOKING FOR A ROOMMATE?

We were able to help a couple of folks find alternate lodging arrangements, but one guy, at least, is still looking someone to help share expenses. Look for details here.

WILL EVERYONE BE BLOGGING?

Seems like it. Robb Montgomery is setting up VizEds to provide total coverage via rss and other means:

I have prebuilt the VizEds page that will include all of your and, well, everyone’s reports from the Boston workshop.

span class=”postbody”>If you know of someone who is blogging from the scene let me know - and I’ll add them to the feeds.

If you’re going and plan to blog — or post or whatever — then you’re in demand. Robb would be happy to set you up with a VizEds blog or a feed into VizEds.

In addition, the folks at SND/Update are looking for bloggers.

With any luck, the place will be ripe for blogging. As we reported earlier:

SND assures me wifi will be available free to attendees in the meeting levels, first floor and mezzanine — basically, where we’ll be hanging out. That includes the restaurants, the hotel bar and all the meeting rooms.

Details will come later on exactly how that will work — with a password code, perhaps.

Hopefully, we’ll have those details soon.

HOW TO GET THERE

Our host for next week’s festivities in Boston, Dan Zedek, writes:

The [SND/Boston] home page has been updated with traveler info in English and Spanish (weather, how to get to the hotel by T or taxi from train and bus stations, and the airport.

Fabulous! Now, our Spanish-speaking friends will know where to find us!

Read the Spanish instructions on how to get to the hotel. Find the English version here.

Or, read the piece we posted about a month ago that told you everything you need to know about going to Boston. Here, again, is a handy-dandy map of the area:

THE INTERNS ARE COMING

The SND/Update blog reported Tuesday that the contestants for this year’s The Intern contest will be arriving in Boston this weekend.

Our summer graphics intern is one of the hopefuls. However, as bloggers covering this event, we expect to remain GO, ALLISENCE! KNOCK ‘EM DEAD! completely impartial.

Speaking of The Intern contest, whatever happened to the folks who participated in last year’s contest in Orlando? Steve Dorsey filled us in at the SND/Update blog. Check it out.

NOW APPEARING: RICHARD JOHNSON

You guys may remember our post about the National Post’s Richard Johnson and his battlefield art in Afghanistan.

Richard is now on the list of speakers in Boston. You’ll find him appearing at 3:30 p.m. Saturday along with Archie Tse of The New York Times and Michael Jarlner of Politiken.

Richard: I’m bringing my copy of your book. Will you please sign it for me?

NICE, NICE SWAG

Already, there’s buzz about nice swag. Thursday night, the SND/Update blog broke news about this fabulous poster that will be available for $10:

There is news about another poster, too, and a gigantic raffle. Read more about it at SND/Update.

IS THE PARK PLAZA REALLY THE TIPTON HOTEL?

If you know to what I refer, then you probably have young teens at home who watch The Suite Life of Zack and Cody on the Disney Channel.

Either that or you need a hobby. Badly.

My daughter, Elizabeth, is a huge fan of the show.

Zack and Cody publicity shot

Zack and Cody Martin are twin teen sons of a single-mom popular hotel lounge singer. They live in a suite in a five-star hotel in Boston. Along with their friends and a large Great Dane, they solve mysteries…

Oh, wait. Wrong show. The boys and their friends get into a lot of trouble every show running around the hotel basement and lobby and doing the weird teen-age stuff that only happens on TV.

While our home-away-from home next week, the Park Plaza, has similarities to The Tipton, there are a lot of differences, too.

The exteriors of The Tipton are not even photographed in Boston. What you see on TV is actually The Fairmont in Vancouver, Canada. The TV show itself is filmed in Hollywood.

The Tipton compared to Park Plaza

Top: The Tipton. Bottom: The Park Plaza.

If you must, read more about it in the Wikipedia.

If you are, in fact, leaving a Zack and Cody fan at home next week and you’re looking for a perfect gift to bring back, you might consider this: Volume two the Disney hit show Hannah Montana is being released Tuesday, Oct. 9, on DVD. If your kid loves The Suite Life, then she probably digs Hannah, too.

I know way too much about this stuff.

Sigh.
