SmartNews’ Jim McBee is in da house
Jim McBee, still a newly-minted managing editor of a newly-minted free daily startup in Fayetteville, got in late yesterday, just in time for the opening reception. He’s here to attend the cool sessions and to begin looking for future hires.

I don’t want to bore you with a long recap, but McBee spent the last couple of years in Bluffton, S.C., where he was design editor of a free tab that was on the cutting edge of citizen journalism and hyperlocal web content. His publication and his efforts were written up in all the trades.
Now, he’s back in his hometown of Fayetteville, competing with his former paper, the Fayettevile Observer. And then, a couple of weeks ago, their building burned down.
They’re still publishing, though. What a bunch of troupers.
Anyway, if you see him, buy him a beer. The man knows more about hyperlocal web content than anyone else.
How come no one has hired him for consulting work?

Fortunately, I ran into Jim in the elevator and a chance to introduce myself and shake his hand. Have always wanted to meet him. An example of why it pays to sneak a peek at nametags while waiting for the elevator to get you to your floor.

Good luck Jim with whatever newly minted cool thing you do….
