Still recovering from Boston? Me, too.
I’m not quite sure when it was that I began to lose my voice last week.
I talked quite a bit in Atlanta on Tuesday and Wednesday, but not enough to do damage to my throat. Wednesday night and Thursday were pretty normal days for me.
The first time I remember having problems was at the opening reception Thursday night at the Felt nightclub. I tried to carry on conversations with a number of people. But it was really too damn loud in that place to chat.
I sucked on Chloraseptic lozenges the rest of the week. But I’d wake up each morning barely able to speak. As the day wore on, my throat improved. But then it took a beating each evening.
Sunday, I gave a lengthy presentation to a group of Egyptian editors. I did OK then, but not great. I remember thinking that I was lucky I didn’t have to project to a larger room.
I took Monday off to recover, something I do every year. But when I woke up this morning at my usual 5:15 a.m., I felt like crap. My throat burned, my body ached and I nearly fell down just walking around the bedroom. I was dizzy as hell. My wife suggested I take a sick day or something and go back to bed.
I did, and woke up around 10 or so.
Now, eight hours later and one nap later, I still feel tired. And my throat is killing me. My daughter, Elizabeth, is laughing at my scratchy voice.
The lesson I’ve learned from this? I’m not sure. Never have kids?
Actually, I think I’ll have to spend more time in Vegas sleeping. I can’t party like I’m 25 years old any more.
I’ve spent the day sending follow-up e-mails to folks I saw in Boston. Several have reported difficulties readjusting to life back home.
So if you have a slight case of the blues, you’re in good company.
At least you can talk.

No kidding, Charles. It usually takes me a month to detox from an SND event.
