Virginian-Pilot promotes Janelle Cogan to assistant copy desk chief

Virginian-Pilot copy desk chief Brian Cleveland wrote Monday:

I’m very pleased to announce that Janelle Cogan has been promoted to assistant copy desk chief.

Janelle has been a copy editor at The Pilot for two years, frequently serving as slot or night metro editor. She has also begun wire editing on occasion. Prior to her time here, she worked at The Sun News in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and is a graduate of the University of Missouri.

She has a keen eye for accuracy, clarity and style and has already proven her ability to take on added responsibility and be a mentor to others. As assistant copy desk chief, her duties will include helping coach copy editors, overseeing the desk’s role in the project process and being in charge of the desk when I’m out of the office.

When you get a chance, please congratulate Janelle. We’re excited for her to take on this new role.

Janelle is a fine copy editor and great to work with. My hat’s off to Brian for an excellent choice.

Congratulations!
