Happy birthday, Nicole Stockdale
Let’s pause a moment to wish the happiest of VizEds birthdays to copy editing whiz Nicole Stockdale of The Dallas Morning News. Nicole turns the big 3-0 today.

Nicole is a 2000 cum laude graduate of Wichita State University, where she was named the school of communication’s Overall Outstanding Senior. She spent three-and-a-half years as a copy editor at The Wichita Eagle before moving to The Dallas Morning News in 2003.
She’s one of the few people I’ve met in the business who is listed in Wikipedia.
Until earlier this year, Nicole posted regularly in her blog about newspapers and editing, A Capitol Idea. It was one of my favorite blogs, on my daily must-read list. I miss the blog very much, but you can still find her archive online here.
Rob Schneider, presentation director of the DMN, says this about her:
Nicole is a blessing to work with. She’s now doing extraordinary work for us editing our Sunday editorial section, Points. She makes our job a great deal easier because she’s at the helm. Her great work almost takes away all the pain caused by the 600 years in between Wichita State NCAA basketball appearances!
Nicole shares a birthday with entertainers David Schwimmer, Grace Kelly and Neil Young and sports figures Sammy Sosa, Nadia Comaneci and Al Michaels.
And Tonya Harding. I’m not quite sure how to describe her.
In addition, today is National Pizza With The Works Except Anchovies Day. Seriously.
Whenever you’re ready to blog again, Nicole, I’m ready to read. Best wishes for a happy birthday!
