Happy birthday, Jon Fisch

Let’s take a moment to wish the happiest of VizEds birthdays to Jon Fisch, ace sports designer for The Seattle Times. Jon turns 31 today.

of the 2006 World Series. The Cardinals were
allegedly involved in the series that year. Photo

On his Facebook page, Jon describes his job like this

I watch sports on TV all day and then tell people what I saw.

I like that description. A lot.

A 2000 graduate of the University of North Dakota, Jon spent four years as the sports copy chief for The Grand Forks Herald before moving to The Charlotte Observer and the The State in Columbia, S.C. Jon spent four years at The St. Louis Post-Dispatch before heading west to Seattle this past summer.

When prompted for a quote about Fisch, the Post-Dispatch’s John Telford said:

Jon Fisch? Who’s Jon Fisch?

Upon reflection, John offered:

Well, there’s certainly been a lot of changes in the newsroom at the Post-Dispatch over the last year. A lot of people have moved on in their careers or just life in general, by either taking new jobs or daring to do something else entirely by taking the buyout. There’s a lot of great journalists who’ve walked these halls, and there are some big shoes to fill, but certainly the biggest hole that’s been left behind is the one left by Jon Fisch and his ego.

Reagan Branham adds this about Jon:

You can say how dedicated he is to his former coworkers. He recently flew back to St. Louis for a couple of days for the Post-Dispatch Christmas party. Now that’s dedication!

Erica Smith — also of the Post-Dispatch — didn’t have a quote for us. But she did offer this up from a Post-Dispatch-oriented Facebook page:

Bob Rose and Jon Fisch

Hey, it’s always nice when the boss
shows a little love. That’s Post-
Dispatch AME/Presentation Bob
Rose, whose birthday I completely
missed on the 15th, dammit. Oh,
well, there’s always next year.

On his Facebook page, Jon says he’s a fan of Ludacris, Outkast and the Barenaked Ladies. That’s why I find it amusing he shares a birthday with teen singer JoJo and Peter Criss of Kiss.

Jon also shares a birthday with the ultracool Nina Mehta of Indiana University.

In addition, today is National Games Day. Read into that what you will.

Best wishes for a happy birthday, Jon!
