Happy birthday, Miranda Mulligan
Here’s wishing the happiest of VizEds birthdays to Miranda Mulligan, graphics reporter and multimedia graphics guru of The Virginian-Pilot.
Miranda joined us at the Pilot a little more than a year ago after earning a masters’ degree at Ball State University, where she studied infographics and multimedia and where she even taught an introductory graphics class. We figured she’d be the perfect person to help lead us into the bold new world of multimedia graphics.
And boy, were we right. She’s a fabulous multimedia artist, teacher and evangelist. Everyone loves working with her.
I don’t have a link to give you where you could find a bunch of her multimedia work. We need to set her up with a multimedia portfolio or something. Meanwhile, here a a few samples of her print work:
Find more of Miranda’s stuff in her NewsPageDesigner portfolio.
At the end of this month, Miranda will expand her role with the Pilot’s multimedia operation. Quite frankly, I’m not sure what her new title will be. But you’ll see her initiating even more ideas and concentrating on bringing even more interactive projects along.
It’s been my pleasure to be her boss over the past 14 months. Make sure you remember her name. She’s going to have one hell of a career.
On March 14, she’s planning to marry her sweetie, Brandon Stuck. Mark your calendars now.
Miranda shares a birthday with entertainers Vanessa Hudgens, Patty Duke and Spike Jones, former 60 Minutes producer Don Hewitt. And Nostradamus, who is not a former producer of 60 Minutes.
Plus, today is National Bouillabaisse Day. Seriously.
Bouillabaisse, if case you don’t know, is a French fish and shellfish stew. Don’t feel bad, though. I had to look it up, too.
Happy birthday, Miranda! I hope you’re having a great time back home this week.

Yay Miranda! We both went to Miami, but obviously Miranda paid attention while I slept through a semester and a half’s worth of Stano’s classes. (Hey, no one told me I’d need to know design to be a copy editor. . .oops.) Hope you had a great day!
Notice Charles didn’t have to look up who Vanessa Hudgens was. Bouillabaisse, run to the dictionary. Teenage stars who get nekkid. . .just consult the bookmarks.

I have a 14-year-old daughter who just loves the High School Musical. Which is why I know about her.
I didn’t know about the nekkid thing. Until now. Thank God for the Google image search.
