Happy birthday, Nina Mehta

Here’s wishing the happiest of VizEds birthdays to Nina Mehta, who graduated a few days ago from Indiana University. Nina turns 22 today.

For someone who just graduated, Nina has a very impressive resumé. Hell, her resumé would be impressive if she had graduated five years ago.

She has interned at The Indianapolis Star, Epolitix in London and at Amnesty International. At the Star, Nina was a Pullium fellow. She worked on both the Indiana student newspaper — The Daily Student — and Inside Magazine, playing a lead role in creating the web desks for each of those publications.

And, of course, she was a very-high-profile member of the initial “The Intern” finalist group in Orlando in 2006. Since then, she has been active at VizEds as a member and a podcaster. It seemed like she was everywhere in Boston back in October.

Fellow Orlando “The Intern” contestant William Couch says:

It was a lot of fun working with Nina during the Intern competition – and she didn’t stop there; a semester designing in London, a summer at the Indianapolis Star, playing podcast-poster child for VizEds with that taser audio recorder…

But seriously, she’s one of the most gregarious and tenacious individuals I’ve met, and that kind of ambition is going to carry her places. Happy Birthday, Nina!

No, that’s neither a taser nor a bug zapper.
That’s the VizEds digital podcast recorder.
Thingy. Machine. Whatchamadoodle. Hell,
I don’t even know what it is, but Nina
learned how to use it in about a nano-
second at SND/Boston. Photo by William

Billy Kulpa — another Orlando “Intern” contestant — says:

I love Nina - she’s one of the most intelligent (and ambitious) people
I’ve ever met. I’m looking forward to stalking her NewsPageDesigner
portfolio now that she’s graduated.

VizEds creator Robb Montgomery says:

I love working with Nina, She’s smart, hard-working and fearless. Of course, she’s a Hoosier (my dad’s alma mater!) and that goes a long way in my book.

But mostly I love that she is as curious as me about other landscapes, cultures, working abroad, mastering electronic media, refining visual communication, and discovering new people.

That’s where she shines - she is so good with people. And, if you’re going to be a journalist of any merit - you had better have great people skills first.

Nina shares a birthday with Jon Fisch of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, teen singer JoJo and Peter Criss of Kiss — he’s the drummer; the one with the cat makeup.

Plus, today is National Games Day. Whatever that means.

Best wishes, Nina! Happy birthday to you!

    THX SO MUCH! Too kind.

And for the record, that face I’m making is my response to paying $5 too much at a lame late night smelly dive bar in Lincoln Park. Time to go smoke free Chicago… for real.
