Just call me ‘Tex’…
It’s well before dawn here in Virginia Beach, but I’m just about to walk out the door. I’m headed for beautiful downtown Austin, Texas, where I’ll spend a couple of days teaching at The American-Statesman.

We’ll be discussing things like visual creativity, enterprise projects and those ever-popular Alternative Story Forms.
My mom — like me, she’s a native of S.C., but for the past few years, she’s been living in nearby Rockdale — plans to drive downtown and have dinner with me tonight. Not sure where we’ll wind up, but I’m voting for Whataburger.
Check out this cool T-shirt they’re selling there:

I’ll keep you posted if I see anything else cool along the way.

Not going to try some Tex-Mex? :)
Too bad you’re not there when the bats are. It’s awesome to see them fly out from under the Congress Street bridge. Supposedly one of the best spots to watch them is the American-Statesman roof, too.

Sunday gospel brunch at Stubbs! You may not eat again for a week.

Whataburger… shades of Houston?

For the record, Mom didn’t take me to Whataburger. She took me to Outback. And I even managed to beat her to the check.
I love my Mommy.

Try the queso at Kirby Lane! Mmmm good.
Although, it’s hard to go wrong with any food in Texas… food is definitely one thing that state does right. HomesickTexan.blogspot.com is a good resource for those of us who miss TexMex and BBQ :).
