Speaking of Michigan State: Carrie Hoover moves to The Oregonian

Ashley Dinges posted the news today over on the SND/Update blog that Carrie Hoover — a Michigan State graduate and winner of the first annual “The Intern” contest at SND/Orlando last summer — has been hired as a news designer for The Oregonian in Portland.

Carrie’s prize for wining “The Intern” contest at SND/Orlando last year was an internship at The San Jose Mercury News. Rooming with Ashley was a little perk that got tossed in along the way.

In addition, The Oregonian has hired Don Renfroe — former presentation editor of The Albuquerque Tribune — and phtographer Tom Boyd of The Register Guard of Eugene, Ore.

Before she won “The Intern,” Carrie spent the summer of 2006 with us here at The Virginian-Pilot. She’s quite good. Portland is very lucky to have her.
