Happy birthday, Carrie Hoover
Here’s wishing the happiest of VizEds birthdays to Carrie Hoover, a designer for The Portland Oregonian. Carrie turns 24 today.

A 2007 graduate of Michigan State University, Carrie interned here at The Virginian-Pilot in the summer of 2006 before she won SND’s first annual “the intern” contest in Orlando that fall. Her prize was a summer 2007 internship at The San Jose Mercury News.
She moved to Portland in December.
On her last day in San Jose, The Merc’s Ashley Dinges wrote in the SND/Update blog:
During her summer, she worked in nearly every section of the paper, from Features to News, and made a splash wherever she went. Her colorful wardrobe and cheerful attitude earned her the nickname of the news desk’s “ray of sunshine.”

Carrie is incredibly talented and fun to work with. We miss her very much at The Pilot.

Carrie shares a birthday with writers Virginia Woolf and W. Somerset Maugham, journalist Edwin Newman, director Tobe Hooper and singer Alicia Keys.
Plus, today is Opposite Day. Seriously. Or, I guess: Not seriously.
Have a great birthday today, Carrie! We’re very proud of you!
