Happy birthday, Josh Crutchmer

Here’s wishing the happiest of VizEds birthdays to Josh Crutchmer, deputy presentation editor for The Omaha World Herald. Josh turns 29 today.

Josh Crutchmer

A 2001 graduate of Oklahoma State University, Josh worked as an Assistant Sports Editor for The Oklahoman before moving to A1 and Projects Designer at The Arizona Republic. He moved to Omaha as Sports Design Director in 2006 and was promoted to deputy presentation editor a year ago.If you’ve never looked through Josh’s online portfolio at NewsPageDesigner, I suggest you take a quick spin through it today.

Now. Immediately.

Josh is one of the more prolific folks out there in cyberland. Not only does he make a huge contribution to the news design world with his work at the SportsDesigner blog — owned and operated by his pal Rich Boudet of The Seattle Times — but he’s also quick to pitch in to help out a colleague. Josh has bailed me out of many a deadline jam with a jpeg to fill a gaping hole in an upcoming slideshow or a very thoughtful yet juicy quote for my column for SND’s Design magazine.

Josh shares a birthday with Gabe Hartwig of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, professional volleyball player-turned-supermodel Gabrielle Reece, singer Sade Adu, director John Carpenter and sports figures A.J. Foyt (racing), Dizzy Dean (Cardinals pitcher) and Harry Carey Sr. (Cubs TV announcer).

Plus today is National Nothing Day. Seriously.

Best wishes for a happy birthday, Josh! Enjoy this year while you can, my friend. Next year, you’ll be 30!
