Michelle studied diplomacy at Peking University in Beijing and then earned a degree in computer science at the University of Hong Kong. She spent two years as a business reporter and an assistant editor at the Xinhua News Agency in Beijing before coming to the U.S. in 2006.
She served an internship at BusinessWeek last summer. She spent her winter break working on the redesign of the IRE and NICAR web sites.
She’s hoping to graduate this spring with a master’s degree in media convergence from Mizzou.
I’m told she’s seeking a spring graphics internship in order to complete the requirements for that degree. With any luck, she’ll make a deal with some lucky paper very soon in order to make that internship happen. We’ll keep you posted.
Those of you out there who have asked me what I like to see in a student portfolio? Look at Michelle’s. Her work is very clean and crisp. She shows she can handle assignments both big and small. Her emphasis isn’t on big splashy visuals, rather she emphasizes the data and telling her story.
Michelle shares a birthday with musicians Kid Rock and Susanna Hoffs, comedians Jim Carrey and Andy Kauffman, athletes Muhammad Ali and Dewayne Wade, founding father Benjamin Franklin and James Earl Jones, the voice of Darth Vader.
Plus, today is Blessing of the Animals at the Cathedral Day. I’m guessing that’s a day of importance to Catholics, so I won’t make fun of it here. Wouldn’t want our cocker spaniel, two cats, four guinea pigs, two turtles and assorted fish to all gang up on me or anything.
Best wishes, Michelle, for very happy birthday! And good luck with that spring internship!
