Strib promotes Cory Powell to managing editor
Cory Powell has been promoted by The Star Tribune of Minneapolis.

His new title is managing editor for presentation and innovation. His former title was deputy managing editor for visual journalism.
Editor & Publisher reported today:
Powell joined the Star Tribune in 2003, where he was part of the paper’s redesign effort, helped launch the Vita.mn tab, and worked to implement zoning. Prior, he had worked at the Charlotte (N.C.) Observer for 10 years, ending his stint there as design director. During his career he has also worked as a copy editor, copy desk chief, and news editor.
Powell’s new responsibilities include managing the design desk, the copy desk, photography and graphics, and newsroom operations. He will also represent the newsroom in circulation and press issues, as well as work on new product innovation with other departments.
The Strib also promoted Rene Sanchez, DME for content, to managing editor for news.
