Graphing your favorite song lyrics

If you’ve ever wondered how Michael Stipe of R.E.M. comes up with his lyrics, ponder no more. Apparently, he graphs everything out before he sings:

Everybody hurts

No, not really. This is from GraphJam, a site where folks submit funny graphics that illustrate finer points of pop culture. In this case, it’s flowcharting the lyrics to the 1993 hit song “Everybody Hurts.”

Here’s another one that makes it clear what Lou Bega’s singing about in his 1999 single, “Mambo No. 5.”

Mambo No. 5

Notice how the value of each of the bars is only “a little bit.” What a scream.

If you’re familiar with neither of these songs, then try on this one. Surely you know it:

99 Bottles of Beer (on the wall)

Or, if you’re not enjoying the music thing, they have graphs on other topics, too. Here’s one about automobile traffic:

Car Honking

There are plenty more there. Check it out.
