Jon Fisch promoted at the Seattle Times

Cathy Henkel, sports editor of The Seattle Times, announced Wednesday:

Jon Fisch has been promoted to assistant sports editor/presentation, replacing Mark McTyre.

Jon will oversee the sports design & agate team and help us connect with the online sports team as well. He also will serve as night editor.

Jon came to us last year from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He’s also has worked at The State in Columbia, S.C., The Charlotte Observer and the Grand Forks Herald.

He is the proud owner of three SND awards and other APSE section awards. He was also part of the Grand Forks Herald staff that was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1998 for public service; the Herald building was burned to the ground in the middle of a major flood. Despite losing their offices, the staff never missed a day of publication and many gave them credit for keeping Grand Forks together in those uncertain times.

He will be transitioning to his new job in the next week. Please join me in congratulating him on his promotion.

Mark McTyre, of course, left the Times in January to become senior editor for sports at MSNBC.com. Read all about it in the SportsDesigner blog.
