Here’s wishing the happiest of VizEds birthdays to Bryan Wendell of The Dallas Morning News‘ copy desk. Bryan turns 24 today.

About midway through lunch on Saturday at SND/
Boston, Bryan suddenly realized ‘they’ were right
about not hanging out with people like Patrick
Garvin of the Florida Times-Union (center), Jim
McBee of Fayetteville, N.C. SmartNews (the arm
at right) and yours truly (behind the camera).

Bryan is a 2006 graduate of Texas Tech — major in journalism; minor in Spanish — and earned a master’s degree a few weeks ago from the University of Missouri.
But that’s not all!
Bryan graduated Tech — summa cum laude — with a 4.0 GPA over four years. Then, because that wasn’t enough, he had another stinkin’ 4.0 GPA from Missouri through his last semester!
I don’t know how he did his last few months, but he did graduate with honors, I’m told.
Bryan served an internship in 2007 on The Miami Herald copy desk. He interned in 2005 with The Dallas Business Journal. He’s also worked with The Missourian, The (Texas Tech) Daily Toreador and the Associated Press.
He’s been on the DMN copy desk since January. He’s allegedly engaged to be married to a fine young lady from Penn State. What’s the matter, Bryan? Big-12 Conference chicks not good enough for you?

State. From Bryan’s Facebook gallery.

Bryan seems firmly entrenched in the world of copy editing, so we don’t really have many recent pages to show you. Here are a few from his design days in Missouri:

Bryan shares a birthday with actors Gene Wilder, Hugh Laurie of House and Shia LaBeouf from the new Indiana Jones movie; oceanographer Jacques-Yves Cousteau and sports figures Joe Montana and Vince Lombardi. If Lombardi were still alive, in fact, he’d be 95 today.
Plus — speaking of Lombardi — today is the National Hug Holiday. Seriously.
Best wishes, Bryan, for a happy birthday! Congratulations for the completion of a successful academic career and best wishes at the Morning News!

Happy Birthday Bryan. I can say, “I knew him when …” You come a long way from late night pizza in the Toreador newsroom. Have a wonderful birthday and talk to you soon.
Thanks, Charles! This is really nice of you to put this together. I appreciate it!
