Come be “brilliant” Wednesday in Lexington

I’m flying out early tomorrow to Lexington, Ky., where I’ll be presenting my “Art of Being Brilliant” slideshow/lecture Wednesday on the campus of the University of Kentucky.

W.T. Young Library at UK

Our venue for Wednesday. Be there.

We’ll begin in the W.T. Young Library at 9:30 a.m. and we’ll take an hour or so for lunch. We’ll be done by 4:30 p.m. or whenever I pass out from forgetting to breathe — whichever comes first.

This is part of the the Traveling Classroom of the Southern Newspaper Publishers Associaton. Bless their hearts, they present these things for free.

That’s right: There is no charge. Your editor can’t possibly quibble with that.

All they ask is that you sign up. It’s pretty late, but I’ll bet you could still get in. Find more info here. Find a map of the UK campus here.

This is the all-day Art of Being Brilliant presentation that received high marks in Dallas last April.

Content is King

My Dallas show. I promise my shirt
won’t be so loud in Lexington.

We’ll talk about creativity in newspaper design. We’ll talk about from where inspiration comes and what you need in order to create brilliant work. We’ll look at all sorts of brilliant work being done at newspapers big and small.

We’ll take in a number of case studies; we’ll give you ideas you can take home and use right away. And we’ll show all you folks at small newspapers out there what can be done with minimal resources. After all, it ain’t the size of your newspaper that counts — it’s the size of your ideas.

If, by some chance, you can’t make this session, take heart: The fine folks at SNPA booked me for one more: In Gastonia, N.C., Wednesday Aug. 6. You can’t sign up for that one quite yet. But the link should be active soon. Put in into your schedule today.

I’ll look forward to seeing you there!

That’s a wonderful campus. It’s also more than a mile wide and has two halves so don’t get lost ;)

Ya gotta love a campus with two halves.
