St. Pete Times hires Darla Cameron as print and multimedia artist

The University of Missouri’s Darla Cameron as been hired full-time as a graphics and multimedia artist by the St. Petersburg Times,  news art director Ron Brackett announced this week.

Darla Cameron

Ron writes:

Those of you who have worked with Darla know what an asset she is to the Times. In the few short months that she has been here, she has already made quite an impression. One of her most memorable pieces was the precinct-by-precinct voting results map for Pinellas and Hillsborough counties at tampabay.com.

Darla came to us from the University of Missouri via the Society of Newspaper Design intern competition and a summer fellowship at Poynter.

In addition to her work on graphics and multimedia interactives, Darla will be the home page editor for tampabay.com on Sunday and Monday nights. She truly is one of those new amazing hybrid journalists.

Please join us in congratulating Darla and welcoming her to the Times.

Darla seems ecstatic about her new gig. She tells us:

I’ve been an intern in news art since finishing [a Poynter fellowship] in July. The Times is in the middle of restructuring to place more focus on tampabay.com — they’re making some really exciting changes. I’m really thankful I get to stay around to see them out!
