Be Jackson Pollock for a day
There’s a really cool link going around today, the 97th birthday of abstract expressionist Jackson Pollock. It allows you to dabble in Pollock’s trademark style of drips and splatters.
This isn’t very good — I think; I never understood Pollock — but it’s something I came up within just a few minutes:
Find the site here. To change colors, click. It’s that simple. Keep going until you get tired. Or until you get caught painting at your desk.
Once you start, you can’t really pick up your brush. You paint wherever your mouse goes. For thicker lines, slow your curser. For thinner lines, move faster.
My friend and ex-direct report Bob Voros of the Virginian-Pilot — obviously a much more talented man than I — produced this touching tribute for his former graphics editor:
Give it a try after your deadline tonight and see what you can come up with. Bonus points to anyone who figures out how to use this in their paper.
Don’t laugh. Anyone remember KidPix? I saw Mike Dabrowa — now of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution — once do an illustration for The Herald in Rock Hill, S.C., using KidPix. It wasn’t half-bad, either.

Uh, does that Voros thing say what I think it says?

Yep. That was a response to what Charles sent me earlier. If I had known he was to post it, I would have been a little more creative. Should have known better. Hopefully. a few of you can get a laugh at my expense. Thanks Chuck, you’re the greatest and I know where you live.

You know where I live NOW.
I’ll be foreclosed upon and evicted any day now, so the joke’s on YOU!
