Nick Mrozowski becomes art director of start-up paper in Lisbon
Last night, we had the pleasure of telling you that Ernie Smith — of the Virginian-Pilot’s wonderful but deceased Link tabloid — has been hired by the Washington Post’s D.C. Express.
Today, another Link alumnus has announced a new gig: Nick Mrozowski is moving to Lisbon, Portugal, where he’ll be art director of a new start-up newspaper.
Nick writes:
To answer your first question: Yes, that means I’m moving to Europe.
To answer your second question: No, I don’t speak a lick of Portuguese.
At the moment, I am trying to secure a work visa from the Portuguese government so that I can start my new job as soon as possible.
If the right strings are pulled, I could be leaving as soon as next Tuesday, or this could drag on for a few more weeks.
Nick was named the Society for News Design’s College Designer of the Year two consecutive years while working at The State News of Michigan State University. By the time he graduated in 2006, Nick had worked his way up to editor-in-chief and had served internships at The Pilot and The Detroit News.
The Pilot snapped him up as soon as he graduated. He designed news and features — and occasional sports — pages until he moved downstairs to Link last September to become special sections editor.
He was laid off along with the rest of the Link staff when Landmark Communications shut down the free tab in December.
Nick promises to keep us posted about the new publication for which he’ll be working. We’ll look forward to seeing them.
