One time you don’t want to abbreviate “Ohio”
Actually, we don’t think you should ever have to abbreviate “Ohio.” It simply ain’t that long a word.
But if you were ever to abbreviate it, this wouldn’t be the time:

That would be correct, Mike, if they intended to use the official U.S. Post Office abbreviations. But AP style is to NOT use those two-letter, all-caps abbreviations.
The AP abbreviation for Michigan is “Mich.” AP style is to not abbreviate Ohio at all.
Assuming they WANT to use AP style on their web site. It’s cases like this one that prove AP has a good style.
