Here’s wishing the happiest of VizEds birthdays to Derek Simmons, deputy design director of the Los Angeles Times. Derek turns 36 today.
Derek has been at the Times about two years. Previously, he was assistant design director for nine years at the Minneapolis Star Tribune, and a designer for two years at the Wichita Eagle. Derek is a 1996 graduate of Kansas State University.
Derek shares a birthday with Fark founder Drew Curtis, actors James Spader and Ashton Kutchner, comedians Chris Rock and Emo Philips, country musician Garth Brooks, novelists Sinclair Lewis, Laura Ingalls Wilder and Charles Dickens.
Which is probably why today is Charles Dickens Day. Seriously.
