Birthdays for Saturday, Feb. 28
Here’s wishing the happiest of VizEds birthdays for two very fine visual journalists.
Megan Lavey currently works with the Bank of America and as a blogger for the Unofficial Apple Weblog. Previously, Meg spent nearly two-and-a-half years as a designer with the Tucson Daily Star. A 2002 graduate of the University of Alabama, Meg worked at the Bristol (Va.) Herald Courier and the Selma (Ala.) Times-Journal. She won five SND awards in 2007 at the Lewiston (Maine) Sun Journal. Meg turns 29 today.
Wes Rand is an artist and illustrator with the Hartford Courant. A 1986 graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Wes has worked at the Courant since 2000. Make sure you check out his portfolio page — he even has hand-designed fonts you can download and use for free. Bonus points to anyone who uses them in a redesign this year. Wes turns 46 today.
Meg and Wes share a birthday with race car driver Mario Andretti, scientist Linus Pauling and actors John Turturro, Gavin MacLeod, Bernadette Peters, Gilbert Gottfried and Robert Sean Leonard (Wilson from House).
Plus, today is Public Sleeping Day. Seriously.
Best wishes, Meg; Wes, for a very happy birthday!
