Final Rocky Mountain News front page

Kathy Bogan, presentation director of the late, great Rocky Mountain News, was kind enough to send us a copy of the final cover.

They went with a retro look. As usual, click for a larger view:

Kathy writes:

Here you go – our final edition cover for you to post as you like.

It’s a Charles Chamberlin creation (with our crack team on what-kind-of-page-do-you-do-when-you’re-shutting-down-an-almost-150-year-old-newspaper).

It wraps – the right hand side is the front page, which uses the front page of the first Rocky from 1859 and a letter from us to the world; the back page (on the left) is a list of the staff on this our last day.

Here’s the back:

Kathy continues:

Thanks for the kind thoughts. A phoenix will rise from the ashes, I truly believe.

We hope so, Kathy. We sure hope so.

What a classy and appropriate way to say good bye. I hope and pray I never have to design a page like that.

  2. Paul Wallen Says:

A great job right down to the final edition. Class act. Just stunning that there will no longer be a Rocky Mountain News and that so many talented journalists are suddenly without a home.

  3. Luke Says:

The last edition was definitely done right … Kathy, let us know if there’s anything we can do to help and you got it.

  4. Ernie Smith Says:

Having put together a last issue in my day, it’s never fun. Ever. :(

  5. Casey Rogers Says:

An excellent page. An extreme heartache.

  6. Scott Griffin, Republican-American Says:

    That’s just fricking sad. Damn.
