Missoulian of western Montana redesigns
The Missoulian — a 30,000-circulation daily in Missoula, Montana — launched a redesign today.
A before-and-after look at the new page one:
Sherry Devlin, editor of the Missoulian, writes:
Today, the Missoulian unveils a sleeker, easier-to-read design that continues our newspaper’s evolution over the past 136 years.
These examples of old Missoulian pages ran

We began as a single type-heavy broadsheet in 1873, pioneered the use of black-and-white photographs a few decades later, then color photos in the 1980s. Over the years, our front pages have sported different designs of the Missoulian nameplate: bolder, lighter, gothic, modern. We’ve had larger and smaller columns of news, dozens or just one story per page.
Among the new features Devlin mentions:
* Narrower pages.
* “A cleaner, fresher look” featuring “crisper, more lively design.”
* Improved navigation and readiblity
* National and world stories featured on page 2
* Increased web refers
