Pattie Barry — a 2008 graduate of the University of Maine — has been hired as web editor of the Lewiston (Maine) Sun Journal.

According to Pattie, the position will involve…

…throwing tasty products together for the Internet and dreaming up creative ways to use social media.

I feel compelled to mention that Eric Kaiser (of NPD fame) and his crew at the Sun Journal have been spending the past two years creating Celsius, a Drupal-based Web-first newsroom management system that I am really excited about and will be helping launch to the newsroom when I get there. It makes multimedia management easy-cheesy, gives editors a ton of control over how stories will be presented visually, and is designed more like a “project management” tool than a “content management” tool, which will make newsroom communication so much easier.

Sounds terrific. And we can just see a marketing campaign for that new system: Celsuis — changing newsrooms by degrees.

Or maybe not. Anyway, back to Pattie…

She begins that new job March 16, she says.

Pattie graduated from the University of Maine last may with a dual degree in New Media and in French. She spent her senior year developing  a new Web site for the student newspaper and then interned at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel in Ft. Lauderdale.

She caught on in October as new media product manager for the Bangor Daily News. Among other things, she helped launch a new real estate “vertical” last week.

It’s been a big week for Pattie. She writes:

I found out that I won an SND award last week for one of the pages I did at the SunSentinel, and today is my 24th birthday, and my boyfriend, Tony Reaves (who is a page designer at the Sun Journal) proposed to me last night.

I’ve also been helping out Paul Wallen, Tim Frank, Matt Mansfield and Tyson Evans launch the new NPD/SND hybrid site … which hopefully will happen soon!

Geez. She wasn’t even on our birthday list, either!

Plus today, is National Tortilla Chip Day. Seriously.
