Now THAT’s how you promote a redesign

The paper: The Echo of South Wales, in Cardiff, circulation about 50,000.

The occasion: A redesign.

The promotion: A video on YouTube. And damned if they didn’t manage to make the newspaper seem really cool:

Your Echo through the ages from James Cuff on Vimeo.

The Echo’s Ben Glaze reports today:

The mini-movie was created by multimedia specialist James Cuff, who joined the company in 2003 after graduating from Southampton Institute with a 2:1 degree in multimedia design.

…James, who lives in Cardiff Bay, visited the city’s temporary library where he studied back copies of the paper on microfilm and spent time reading more recent papers in Media Wales’ library at the company’s headquarters in the capital’s Park Street.

Creating the film, Your Echo through the ages, took three weeks.

James added: “I looked at old Echos dating back to the first issue in 1884 and recreated several front cover images of key moments in history.

“I then worked closely with the Echo redesign team and created pages that would best illustrate the new style.
