Arizona’s Joey Kirk moving to Tribune interactive
We don’t receive notices about new hires all that often any more. So we’re delighted to post this one from Chris Courtney of Chicago Tribune Interactive:
Believe it or not, I have a new hire announcement to throw your way. A bit of sunshine amid the stormy skies that seem to shroud our industry these days.
Joey Kirk has accepted a position with the Creative Team at Tribune Interactive. His title will still be designer, but he will be putting his considerable print skills aside and work primarily on concept, design and UI for web, mobile and gaming platforms.
Joey and his sweetie, Chelsea. They’re
planning to get married in January 2010.

His first day is May 18th and he will be working directly with me.
Joey comes to us from the Arizona Republic and for those that remember SND Orlando, Joey was a member of the first Intern competition.
Joey was indeed a finalist in the first-ever “The Intern” contest at SND/Orlando in 2006. He also served a summer fellowship at the Poynter Institute.
During his college years at Texas Tech, Joey worked as a reporter for The Wylie News. His final year, he was editor-in-chief of the Texas Tech student paper, The Daily Toreador. He earned a masters degree in interdisciplinary studies in 2007.
Joey has been a sports designer with The Arizona Republic for more than two years.

Words can’t describe how proud I am of Joey, or how bummed I am that he’s leaving the desert. But he’s joining a great team and working for a great boss in Mr. Courtney, and it’s the perfect job for his many talents. Make us proud, man.
