Here’s wishing the happiest of VizEds birthdays to a couple of fine visual journalists…

Tom Priddy is multimedia editor of the Spartanburg, S.C. Herald-Journal. A 1973 graduate of Clemson University, Tom worked as a reporter for the Anderson (S.C.) Independent and then a reporter, features editor and music writer for The Greenville News. He spent nine years as graphics and design editor of The State in Columbia, S.C., before joining Knight-Ridder’s PressLink, and eventually rising to managing editor. He helped to build and manage KRT Direct and NewsCom but moved back to South Carolina in 2005. He’s also a freelance photographer, specializing in shooting baseball. Among his clients: Baseball America, Sports Illustrated and ESPN magazines and the Washington Post. Look here to find a Q&A we conducted with him last month.

Angie Smith is a graphic artist for the MST Group, a marketing and sales consulting firm based in Indianapolis. A 2001 graduate of Ball State, Angie spent four years as a graphics reporter for the State Journal-Register in Springfield, Ill. and nearly two years as a reporter and graphic artist for Knight Ridder/Tribune — which became McClatchy/Tribune — Information Services in Washington, D.C. She joined MST last November.

Tom and Angie share a birthday with actors Haley Joel Osment, Steven Seagal, Omar Sharif, Chuck Connors, Max Von Sydow and Harry Morgan; musician Mandy Moore, football announcer John Madden, and journalists Clare Boothe Luce and Joseph Pullitzer.

Plus, today is Golfers Day. Seriously.
