Nevada Appeal converts to tab format

Nope, it’s not an April Fool’s joke. Readers of the Nevada Appeal are waking up today to a tabloid newspaper:

An unbylined story at the top of page 1 of today’s editon reports:

The new format lets us put a stronger emphasis on local news. And for those concerned about sharing the paper with your significant other, we placed the Sports pages in the middle, where they can easily lift out and be carried separately to your favorite reading spot.

“Your favorite reading spot.” Heh.

The Appeal circulates about 16,000 papers daily. It’s owned by Swift Communications of Reno and reports it is not only the oldest continuously published paper in Nevada but also the oldest continuously operating business in Nevada’s capital, Carson City.
