Northern Virginia Daily redesigns
We apologize for our tardiness in getting this posted.
The Northern Virginia Daily of Strasburg, Va. — circulation about 15,500 — launched a redesign about a month ago.
A before-and-after look at page one:
Design editor Linda De Rosa writes:
We did the whole redesign in-house. This was really more of a tweak because of the size change than a full redesign. We didn’t change the fonts.
The goal was to get back some of the space we were losing with the change from 50″ to 46″. We did this mostly by shrinking the section headers, and by changing the spacing around everything. We added our Web address to every section front, and our reporters’ e-mail address were moved to the top of the story. We also added a designated color for each section.
A closer look at the new front:
The front had the most changes. We now have teasers one photo teaser on the top, and three on the bottom of the page, which also incorporate the section colors.
Here’s a before-and-after look at the second section front…
…and a closer look at the new Region front:
Linda continues:
The reaction has been surprisingly positive. Of course, we did not change the puzzles or the font size, so we didn’t give them much to complain about. Our comics changed from color to black and white before the redesign, so people got the complaints from that out of their system before other things changed.
