Washington Post gives props to the Peeps
The Washington Post recently held its second-annual contest to design dioramas using Peeps-brand marshmallow Easter treats. The Post received more than 800 submissions, it says.
Here are four of our favorites…
This is a “recreated” scene from last summer’s Olympic games, built by Meghan Coyle, An Phan, Linda Vo and Vina Vo:
Note the diver’s huge eyes and his little rubber duckie float, made from pipecleaners.
This recreation is perhaps a little more accurate — it’s of the arrest of former D.C. mayor Marion Barry, presented by Jodie Smolik:
Note the cute chick lounging on the hotel bed while FBI agents lurk in the bathroom. Also note the clever faux video timestamp in the lower left.
Our next diorama is of the Beatles’ iconesque 1969 Abbey Road album cover, built by Sharon Matsumoto Hirabayashi:
She built clues into her work — Clues about the demise of “Paul.” Granted, the VW bearing down on him is a clue that even Shaggy and Scooby couldn’t miss.
And finally, our favorite — This Star Trek scene, complete with tribbles, courtesy of Jill Yutan:
Note the Spock peep actually has pointed ears. Quite logical.
These are only four images. The Post has posted 37 of them. Find them all here.

AWESOME! I LOVE PEEPS!!! On sale for 79 cents at the Shell station by my house.
These are so creative. The Star Trek one would’ve been cool if it was the back in time episode Trials and Tribulations from Deep Space Nine. But what peep would’ve played Captain Sisko?
