Birthdays for Wednesday, May 27
Here’s wishing the happiest of VizEds birthdays to two fine visual journalists.
John Garcia has worked at the Ventura County Star in Camarillo, Calif., for more than ten years. He was Assistant Business Editor for nearly six years before becoming a designer and copy editor in 2004. After two-and-a-half years of that, John became Special Sections Editor in June 2006. John is a 1989 graduate of California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, Calif., maybe five or six miles east of Camarillo. John turns 42 today.
Mauricio Guiterrez is design director of the Detroit Free Press, where he’s worked for nine years. A 1993 graduate of Mexico’s Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Mauricio spent five years as a designer with El Norte in Monterrey before joining Roger Black Studios. He moved to the Orange Country Register in 1998 and then to the Freep in 2000. Find his portfolio here.
John and Mauricio share a birthday with musicians André “3000″ Benjamin and Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes; actors Joseph Fiennes, Louis Gossett Jr., Christopher Lee and Vincent Price; politicians Henry Kissinger and Hubert Humphrey; sports greats Sam Snead and Jeremy Mayfield, comedian Adam Carolla and writers Herman Wouk and Harlan Ellison.
Plus, today is the Body Painting Arts Festival. Seriously.
Best wishes, John; Mauricio, for a very happy birthday!
