Alberto Cairo has been an assistant professor of infographics at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill for about four years. Previously, he worked as an artist for La Voz, Diario 16 and El Mundo and then spent five years as director of online graphics at El Mundo, Spain’s second-largest newspaper. Cindy Jacobs is news design director for the Detroit News. A 2001 graduate of Michigan State University, Cindy spent a year at the Aurora (Ill.) Beacon News before joining the Detroit News in 2002. She mostly designed sports before being promoted to her current position. . Cindy turns 30 today.
Alberto and Cindy share a birthday with sports greats Venus Williams and Dan Jansen, singer Barry Manilow, actor Ralph Bellamy, composer Igor Stravinsky, artist M.C. Escher and politician Newt Gingrich.
Plus, today is Watergate Day, the 37th anniversary of the infamous break-in at the Watergate complex in Washington, D.C., that eventually led to the downfall of President Richard Nixon.
Today is also Eat Your Vegetables Day. Seriously.
